Switzerland has made history in Nigeria after becoming the first country to win the FIFA U-17 World Cup in only their first appearance in the competition following a lone goal win over hosts and now dethroned champion Nigeria at the Abuja National Stadium.
It was a frenetic start to the final as the Swiss defence made a goal line clearance after two minutes while Stanley Okoro and Akhigbe Oliha forced Swiss keeper Benjamin Siegrist to more action moments after.
Switzerland managed a chance at goal with Janick Kamber's solo effort saved by Nigeria's Dami Paul though Nigeria were back to applying pressure on the Swiss defence with Omeruah sending a header.
The drama continued deep in first half stoppage time as Sani Emmanuel twice coming close to a goal while the Swiss have a long range effort saved by Dami Paul.
The second half began with Switzerland making more forays upfront with Haris Seferovic and Nasim Ben Khalifa coming close either side of the hour mark before Seferovic inevitably headed the Europeans ahead in the 64th minute and silence the capacity crowd in the stadium.
That sparked the Nigerians back to life with Sani Emmanuel forcing a save with his free kick before shooting just wide though squaring the ball across goal may have been the better option.
Nigeria then hit the post with a powerful header as the Golden Eaglets surged forward late on in search of an equaliser with Switzerland holding on for the famous triumph with FIFA President Sepp Blatter, Nigeria's Vice President Goodluck Jonathan and CAF President Issa Hayatou in attendance.
Switzerland win just their first ever football competition at all levels while the Golden Eaglets remain winless in U-17 competitions played outside Asia though made record by becoming the first host country to reach the final and first defending champion to go past the first round.
