The U-17 national team of Spain this evening claimed the bronze medal from the third place play-off of the cadet World Cup with a lone goal victory over Colombia at the Abuja National Stadium.
In an encounter dominated by the Europeans, the first half somehow ended goalless despite several goal chances for Spain with Colombia's keeper doing well to keep a header from going in though was fortunate to see the rebound tapped just wide of goal.
Spain remained in the ascendency in the second half with joint top scorer, ahead of the final match, Borja sending a clear header just wide of goal while the South Americans forced Spanish keeper Edgar to a save just past the hour mark before a goal line clearance moments later denied them of the opening goal.
That goal finally came with a quarter of an hour to go with substitute Morata's deft touch allowing Isco to score after almost blowing the chance at first with a miscued shot.
Spain afterwards held on for the win, one place short of their second place finish at the last edition in South Korea, where they lost to Nigeria. The Golden Eaglets meanwhile face Switzerland in tonight's final match with Nigeria after a record fourth win at the cadet level in a seventh final appearance while the Swiss are after a first title in only their first appearance at the competition itself.
