Nigeria qualified for the quarter final of the ongoing FIFA U17 World Cup with a comprehensive 5-0 win over hapless New Zealand to set up a clash with South Korea.
Right from the kick-off at the half filled Abuja National Stadium, the Golden Eaglets dominated their opponents and the inevitable opener came through Egbedi in the 18th minute with further goals from Stanley Okoro and Egbedi with his second giving Nigeria a 3-0 lead into the interval.
And after a host of chances wasted by Nigeria as well as a disallowed goal, substitute Sani Emmanuel made it 4-0 two minutes after coming on before adding the fifth five minutes later and seal a crushing display from coach John Obuh's lads.
The Golden Eaglets now is the last African representative in the competition after favourites Spain made easy work of their passage into the last eight with a 4-1 win over Burkina Faso earlier today.
Nigeria will next play South Korea with the Asians defeating Mexico 2-0 in their Round of 16 encounter. Other results saw Turkey defeat the United Arab Emirates 2-0 despite playing most of the match with 10 men while Colombia came from two goals down to defeat Argentina 3-2 and Switzerland's dream debut at this level continued courtesy of a 4-3 penalty shootout win over Germany after the game ended 2-2.
